Energy, environmental and resource efficiency

Together with their partners from the industry, the DITF institutes develop processes for an improved energy, environmental and resource efficiency. This produces sustainable products and services for many different applications.

A field with great potential for the future is the combination of textiles with modern technologies. In this field, the future has only started now and the DITF institutes set the standards for its design. In connection with micro and nanotechnologies and with digital IT and communication technologies, textiles help to optimize resource efficiency at all levels.

Application examples for our products, processes, and services:

  • Bionic products based on natural examples
  • Coatings made of renewable materials such as cellulose or chitosan
  • Polymer synthesis with biogenic polyethylene
  • Solvent-free energy-saving processes for coating and textile finishing
  • Minimal application technologies (e.g. foam application methods)
  • Textile materials to extract water from fog
  • Recycling technologies for high-performance fibers
  • Heat return and heat recovery in drier systems
  • New types of textile or textile based heat exchangers to recover thermal energy from sewage systems
  • Textile based thermal solar collectors
  • Energy production using technical textiles
  • Economic and ecological materials for fuel cells
  • Irrigation systems based on capillary forces and suction power
  • Filter materials for gas/solid/liquid separation
