Research Associate (m/f/d) in Acoustics, (PhD or Postdoc)

The DITF form the largest textile research center in Europe with more than 250 scientific and technical staff. The core of the E-Textiles & Acoustics Technology Center is the research and development of smart textiles and innovative acoustic systems.

We are looking for a motivated scientist as a

Research Associate (m/f/d) in Acoustics, (PhD or Postdoc)
with a background in Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a similar field

 for a full-time employment in an interdisciplinary team of experienced and young researchers.

Range of tasks

  • Development and acquisition of research topics on textile acoustic absorbers/diffusers, adaptive smart acoustic systems through to novel metamaterials (e.g. construction and research of periodic structures, low-frequency manipulation, room acoustics and noise control)
  • Independent planning and realization of publicly funded research projects, e.g. DFG, as well as industry-financed R&D orders (national, international)
  • Participation in international and national meetings, conferences and trade fairs
  • Publication of scientific papers (international peer-reviewed journals)
  • Supervision of student Theses (Bachelor/Master)

This position offers the opportunity for a PhD.

Your profile:

  • Above-average university degree (Master or comparable) in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or another relevant field and fulfilment of the requirements for admission to doctoral studies or a PhD
  • Excellent knowledge in the field of acoustics and/or wave physics
  • Good programming skills (Matlab, Python …)
  • Interest in theory and modelling of wave propagation in periodic and non-periodic structures and in fundamental research in acoustics
  • Knowledge in the field of acoustics metamaterials or porous materials is an advantage
  • Experience in acoustic measurement techniques
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (publications, international collaborations and projects)
  • Oral and written communication skills in German are an advantage (collaborations, project applications and internal communication)
  • Structured, goal- and result-oriented way of working
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with a wide variety of scientific disciplines
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently, creativity
