DITF's polymerization laboratories focus on non-resorbable and resorbable polymers for medical applications. Resorbable polymers are dissolved by the body after a certain period of time after they have fulfilled their function.. Various polymerization reactors from laboratory to pilot scale are available for a variety of applications.
Successful developments include resorbable polymers, which are particularly biocompatible during the degradation phase because hardly any acid monomers are released, and a hydrophilic polysulfone, which is suitable as a membrane in biological systems because proteins do not attach to it.
The DITF have the technologies for comprehensive polymer analysis (NMR, DSC, TGA, GPC, GC-MS, ICP, viscometry and rheology). The results are directly fed into the further optimization of polymer composition and polymerization processes, ensuring effective, fast and cost-efficient polymer development.
Range of services
- Development of tailor-made functional polymers and polymer blends, especially for medical applications such as implants, medical products for wound care and carrier materials for regenerative medicine and drug delivery systems
- Additivation of polymers (coloring, admixture of functional substances) during or after polymerization
- Preparation of polymer solutions for further processing from the solution (wet spinning process, spray process, squeegee technology, membrane technology)
- Small-scale production of biocompatible, resorbable and non-resorbable polymers
