Under the umbrella of the DITF, work is being carried out on all future textile topics in three research areas - textile chemistry and chemical fibers, textile and process engineering and management research. The affiliated ITV Denkendorf Produktservice GmbH, which as a technology transfer center provides the market with a wide range of services, supports these activities.
The DITF Executive Board develops and coordinates the broad outlines of the scientific and research strategy as well as expansion and financial planning. The board members are:

- Peter Steiger
The board of trustees is the supervisory body and supports the work of the DITF executive board through its cooperation. It advises the executive board on questions of professional and structural orientation and comprises representatives from science and industry as well as representatives of the ministries of economics and science of the State of Baden-Württemberg. The scientific advisory boards for each research area consist of their heads, researchers and industry representatives. They provide direct advice on specific topics within their respective research areas.
The German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf are a foundation under public law under the supervision of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism.
