The image analysis AxioVision developed by ZEISS controls the microscopes and cameras, but is also used to measure microscopic images. This way, material parameters can be quantified. The possibilities of imaging analysis include:
- Evaluation of geometric parameters (surfaces, roundness, length, angle, and so forth)
- Time lapses – allow recording of changes in the sample over time
- Depth and topography measurements – can be established thanks to the gaged Z-drive
- Image stacking – for the expansion of depth of field is accomplished by combining several pictures taken with a different focus
- Illustration of gray or color hue distribution as line profile – to measure, for example, the uniformity of a colored fiber cross-section
- Macro programming – to create enough data in automated programming that permit a statistical evaluation
