Protection for Fencing

Fencing clothing protects against both minor and serious injuries. The demands placed on the fabric are high, as athletes must not be unduly restricted in their mobility despite having adequate body protection.

To ensure safety and functionality, the clothing must meet established standards. These are tested at the DITF’s Service Center Testing Technologies. A comprehensive testing system was established in the laboratory for this purpose as early as the 1990s.

For years, the DITF has been testing the garments worn by fencers in accordance with DIN EN 13567:2002-10. Jackets, pants, gloves, as well as socks, undershirts, and face masks are subjected to strict testing. With this specialized testing facility, the DITF possess comprehensive expertise in testing fencing apparel. The research center collaborates with leading fencing apparel manufacturers in Germany and abroad.

The DITF are a member of the CEN/TC 162/WG 11 Technical Committee (“Body Protection in Sports”), which is responsible for the European standard for protective clothing in fencing, EN 13567.
